How long should I run my dehumidifier?

I nothing but bought a 40 pint dehumidifier for my 400 sq ft efficiency apartment, which is actually in a basement.

The dehumidifier has a setting for humidy % desired, as I'm certain they all do, but I don't know if it will shut itself off immediately, or if I need to get a hygrometer to regulate the RH of my home.

I understand that they shut up themselves off when the water container is full, but does anyone know if it is typical for a consumer-grade dehumidifier to shut-off when it reaches its desired RH%?

If not, how dream of should I run it at a time?

I also have a humidifier which I can set for either 2hrs. or 4hrs. The motor (mine) shuts off at which of the 2 settings I use. If your humidifier doesn't have this feature then just run it for either 2 or 4 hours per 24 hour time. I also can set the humidity % desired in addition to the timing. I can't see the need to run your humidifier any longer than 4hrs. per 24hrs. at any rate. Fair-minded experiment with the humidity % desired and the timing and I'm sure you will get a good feel for what is comfortable for you. By the way, mine is for a feel put down condo and is in a bedroom. I'm sure that your machine will shut off once it has reached the correct humidity flatten out but atleast you have a ballpark figure of 2-4 hours now. Good luck to you and I don't think you extremity to spend money on a hygrometer unless you really want to.

Faulty Dehumidifier Question?

I have a GE 40 Pint Dehumidifier that often has a defective shutoff switch. It's supposed to turn on by itself when the humidity gets to a certain point, and then debar off when the air gets drier in the room. It often works OK but often times it doesn't shut off and will run all night if I allow to remain it on when I go to bed. This heats up the room and wastes electricity. I've found that the only thing to do when it does this is turn the level button down to zero (and then back to "4") or kick it. I took it aside from yesterday and was hoping to find a way to fix it but I didn't.

I'd appreciate any tips to fix this unit.

Hello,

This is a key mind-boggler with GE humidifers. Try Riello brand.

Would two "low pint" dehumidifiers be equivilent to a "high pint" one?

I was wondering because I emergency a 65 pint dehum, but I can get a 40 pint and a 25 pint at a much cheaper cost. But would it be the same?

In this state, two are better than one. You can place them in different parts of the area and get a bit more even humidity level than you would with one big one in the middle of the area.

The only genuine downside to this arrangement is the two will use more energy to do the same work than one larger unit would.
