Is there a quiet dehumidifier?

We recently purchased a Kenmore 70 pint. It was so tumultuous! It was placed in the basement on a concrete floor. We recently had a lightning strike and the surge took out the dehumidifer. Now we have to supersede it and I want something more quiet.

All dehumidifiers have a fan and compressor. You should have called for military talents when it was new. It probably was a refrigerant line vibrating against the frame or cabinet and finally wore thru and caused refrigerant injury, not lightning damage. They all have a fan so, that would be the suit. When I buy something I demand to see it out of the box, I'm not buying a box. I want to see something like the operate or I tell them "I'll make known it right back" they usually comply. Tell them your previous problems and I'm sure they'll commandeer you.

are new dehumidifiers quiet?

I have one of the old brown metal ones with the scuttle and ball on a chain. It is too noisy. How are the current white plastic ones?

Implausible! I had an old brown one too, tossed it. Get a new one that is energy star rated. Get one with the options you never had like 2, 4 or 6 hour intermission timers and an option to select the humidity % you want, not just on / off. This elimenates freeze up of the coil on the back, too. And they are attentive and quiet.
