Whirlpool buys WC Wood in Ohio, not in Guelph Guelph Mercury

GUELPH — The W.C. Wood name will end on. Sort of.

Whirlpool Corp. announced Monday it purchased various assets of the W.C. Wood Company Ltd., including its freezer manufacturing shrub in Ottawa, Ohio.

“Whirlpool Corporation did not bid on the Guelph plant,” Whirlpool director of external communications Jill M. Saletta said in an email to The Mercury.

When asked why Whirlpool chose not to bid on the non-operative Guelph plant, she said, “Whirlpool has no further information to share on the Guelph plant.”

“Questions concerning the successful bidder(s) on the Guelph property and other assets should be directed to BDO Dunwoody, the court-appointed Watchdog of the W.C. Wood liquidation process,” Saletta said.

A call to Ken Pearl, the BDO employee in charge of Guelph W.C. Wood interfile, wasn’t returned late Monday.

After more than 65 years of manufacturing fridges, freezers and dehumidifiers in Guelph, W.C. Wood went into receivership in May. It officially went out of duty last month, closing its factories in Guelph, Ohio and Mexico.

My 11 year Whirlpool dehumidifier runs, but does not dehumidify. It worked up through last year.?

I have a archetype QF1718498 purchased July, 1996. It runs, but the pan is dry as a bone. It is plenty humid in the basement. Not inevitable what the problem is. I took the cover off today and tried washing the coils, but no change.
Most of the auto cease off features would shut the whole motor down. It is running, just not pulling any water.

It may be ceaseless, but the motor is defective now. I had the same problem and had to buy a new one. It is not running hard enough to pull the moisture from the air, just running enough to fill up a sound...the sound of you need a new dehumidifier.

Is it too calculated in your basement? Mine will not collect any water if the basement is less than about 60F.

It's eleven years old. That's about 70 in dehumidifier years. Lifetime to replace it.

Estimate sure it is level. I had the same problem and once I moved it to a level area it worked fine.

It sounds like you devastated the refrigerant charge, assuming the compressor is running. If it is to cold in the basement, then the evaporator coils would dead in one's tracks. If the compressor is running but the evaporator coil is not cold or wet then usally the sealed system has a leak. It is not worth repairing. It is what we in the job call a desposible appliance. But you will have to despose of it properly. Not in the trash.

Well I don't separate that model you have, but I use a dehumidifier in my basement too! they have a filter in them if that get to plugged up it won't work right of collecting the moisture! If you have been management it too long without cleaning all the coils about ever 2 months that would be a problem too! But I would guess your model would have settings of how much you want to take out of the air down there! try turning it off for about an hour, then go back and good deed it back on, but set the setting a little more then half way up higher, or try full blast, leave it run for about 2 hours! then check the water container if you have a container the not make sense gets collected in! I know the newer ones now have a optional hose to run to a drain so you don't have to empty the O collecting container any more!

I know the older GE one I use will quit collecting water if I let it run to many months without cleaning off all the coils and the whole innards everted, dehumidfiers collect alot of dust particles too and makes a big mess of everything inside the units, so correct cleaning maintenance always keeps them running right! but on yours I would think your settings are set way to low!

My dehumidifier gets very hot on the back. Is this normal?

I have a Whirlpool dehumidifier in my basement (not a part of the memory) and it runs continuously -- it is set for continuous and has a hose to get rid of the water directly down the drain. The back (where the condenser is) blows hot air and gets relatively hot to the touch. Is this normal or a fire concern?

Positive, it's normal. A dehumidifier works alot like an airconditioner. Since warm air holds more moisture than chilling air, it cools the air to remove the moisture. The heat energy that has been removed from the air has to be exhausted (as well as the heat it takes to run the gadget itself).

I need a good dehumidifier.......?

Our 5 year old Whirlpool basement prostrate model dehumidifier has stopped pulling moisture out of the air and I need to get a new one. Does anyone have a recommendation of a dehumidifier that's reliable and will last longer. Thanks!
I have main air conditioning --- that doesn't do anything for the basement......

Whirlpool is a wares brand. I would suggest cleaning the coils on your old unit first, before buying a new product. We live on the Lake Michigan shore, it is steamy most of the year, and own a whirlpool as well, it is well over five years old and is still running. I think Lowe's sells these.
