VILLAINS have plundered flex worth thousands of pounds from properties in Norton Fitzwarren.

In the latest raid at the weekend, chief was taken from the roof of All Saints Church, leading to extensive water damage as heavy rains poured in, ruining carpets, effects and electrical equipment.

The 16th Century roof beams of the church were also exposed to the elements.

Churchwarden Lawrence Burr said: “The hurt to these vulnerable buildings is heartbreaking, especially as this represents many hours of volunteer labour to put right again.

“These uncaring vandals must not be allowed to get away with this unfavourable behaviour that brings misery to so many people.”

Last Tuesday, the village hall was hit, leading to a leak that brought the best quality into the main corridor.

Mary Hayward, chairman of the village hall committee, said: “We had to connect temporary roofing and get a dehumidifier in. Fortunately it didn’t affect activities at the hall but it’s frustrating as a lot of people put a lot of however and effort into the hall.”
