how to get rid of a lot of moister and mold in the basement?

it's god aweful down there! a few months after putting a desk down there...there's a clutch of green (algae/mold) on it. my laptop computer was down there now it wont turn on. i wanna sleep down there and my drums are down there and so is my guitar amp....
Mold goes with superior humidity. Yes, it sounds like you desperately need a dehumidifier, and yes, it will send your power bill up almost as badly as an air conditioner.

a humidifier would succour. not sure of size or brand. for a quick remedy, you might try sprinkling alot of cat litter on the floor and blanket it up after a few days. also, those packets you get in pill bottles are meant to soak up moisture.

Yikes. You must get a dehumidifier and don't take down there or put anything there yet, that will be impacted by moisture. We have one and yes, it does cost to run it, but we don't run it all the time and still get good results. We put a hose on it and
