Sometimes the Westport News will evaluate the town's recent events and create a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" roll in response. A review of the Westport news this past week has luckily been very positive, and we're happy to commend the township and its residents for their positive contributions.
1. The Westport Police Department deserves credit for keeping up with rising violation in town. They arrested three men in connection with an armed robbery at the McDonald's on 701 Post Road E. Things have gotten a scarcely scary in town lately, with more than one report of a robbery at gun-point in the last month. We're glad that Westport's finest are up to the call into and are working hard to keep our streets, homes and places of business safe.
2. Wednesday's paper featured a report covering Staples High School Principal John Dodig 's talk with the Y's Men. Dodig, his department and staff are to be commended for all the hard work they put in to make Staples one of the best high schools in the nation, as recognized by Business Week . As Dodig pointed out, education in the 21st century means that the schools must tailor to changes and new methods of reaching students. The town's educators worked hard to minimalize any budgetary requests last year, including restricting guide raises for the current fiscal year. We hope that, as we head into budget season, that their sacrifices this year will be enchanted into consideration. It may mean extra tax-payer dollars, but the townspeople seem to really value the top-notch lore this town provides, and seem willing to pay a little more for this added service.
