Growing up in our parliament in Evergreen Park on the south side of Chicago, I can liken to as important as Christmas. With two older sisters, two younger brothers, and a female parent who lived to dress up as a witch, or 1920’s flapper well into her 70’s, she rocked our house on Halloween.

My younger fellow-creature and I would start out with our pumpkin drawn hand colored brown paper bags usually at the same together. For the life of me, I will never understand how he came back with two full bags to my one. After a while I surrendered to the fact he could knock on doors I was scared to extinction to knock on. He did not fear any door on Halloween if there was peanut butter kisses or candy corn on the other side.

My mom did not rely upon in buying costumes. Therefore, every year, my two younger brothers were usually bums, you know, old clothes, old hats, and charcoal on your aspect to make you look dirty, like you just got off a boxcar. On the other hand, I was dressed as a pretty lady, with lots of makeup, one of my mom’s old fete dresses, and a hairstyle to boot.

My daughter is 6 so nothing too crazy. We have the costume and hat but no witch's costume is complete without a broom! I'm also trying to find her a black cat treat bag.....seen any?

I persevere in a small town and I'm getting the feeling that people have somehow found out that I'm a Witch. I'm proud of my Wiccan faith and have no dilemma holding my head high, but I worry about how Christians in this community will treat my kids.

Wicca IS a doctrine. It is recognized by the country. Being that it is a religion recognized in the US, we have the right to practice and it is unlawful to discriminate against pagans, justifiable like any other religions.
