what exactly are steam vacuum cleaners?

im proper really curious about it and whats the difference with the conventional vacuum cleaner?is it worth buying?
but is there anything needed to put in it..or it reasonable uses water?
Steam cleaners are degree misnamed. Even though some of the heat the water themselves, it's not really steam. The machine sprays a fine mist of cleaning settlement or clean water into the carpet and the vacuum sucks it up into a recovery tank for disposal.

I'm looking to buy one, but don't see any value reviews, so let's see what the yahoosers say.
I have both a Bissell AND a Hoover - they both do other than jobs. I ended up getting the Hoover because a part cracked on the Bissell. Couldn't get a replacement online & no authorized restore facility in our area (we live in the "sticks").

IF it's value the investment, do people have suggestions on which to buy?
